How to promote yourself online using videos without pulling your hair out (in frustration)

The challenge for most business owners is to let people know they have a business, without spending their entire marketing budget at once.

More and more people hear that video marketing is “the next big thing” and they are right, although instead of being “next”, it is already here.

If you use the techniques listed below, you will not pull your hair out or have headaches; It is so simple that I am sure you will be amazed.

This technique does not require a video camera, a digital video camera, or a smartphone or device (such as an iPhone, Android, or iPad), although all of these may be used in the future. This technique is as simple as possible: By using some software on your computer (I will list the software to buy and others free of charge, something for everyone), you will create a simple presentation or slide show and eventually post it on YouTube.

I am going to guide you through 5 simple steps to get you started, which are:

1. start your presentation or slide show software

2. create 3-5 slides

3. export as video

4. Post to your YouTube channel

5. publish on your website

Now let’s take a look at each of them in more detail.

Step 1: launch the software

Make sure you have one of these types of software to create presentations and slide shows:

• Powerpoint (for Mac and Windows)

• or Keynote ($ 20 for Mac),

• or OpenOffice (for Mac and Windows, at no cost!)

Decide on a topic: The easiest way to start is to think of a question someone has asked you about your business. Name the file with the name of the question and answer the question in the video.

Step 2: creating the presentation / slide show

Start the software. On a sheet of paper or online, if you prefer, you should list the following things and then turn each one into a slide (use more than 5 if necessary):

1. your opening slide: photo, logo, company name, present what the video is about, your name (make sure your logo and website name appear on each slide)

2. next slide: write what you are going to tell them and how it will help the viewer

3. next slide: write whatever you want them to know, being clear and concise in getting your message across

4. next slide: write a brief overview of what you said, including benefits

5. closing slide – put a call to action – what would you like them to do now? Sign up to receive your newsletter? Visit your site and get a free PDF download? Whatever it is, make the message BIG and clear. Save the file with a name using keywords related to the content of the presentation.

Regardless of the software you choose, you can “Record” yourself as you speak, as you scroll through each slide (usually by pressing the right arrow key on your keyboard).

You can run as many recordings as you like until you’re happy, but it really just has to be simple (and fast) – you’re not trying to make a billionaire blockbuster.

Step 3 – Export as video

Once you are satisfied with the recording phase, select File / Export from the menu.

The file will be exported in movie format, which can be either .mov or .mp4, depending on the system you are using.

Step 4: upload and post on YouTube

If you have not created a YouTube account for your business, please do so now. When you’re ready, upload the video and post it.

Bravo!

Copy the link for the “live” video, you will need it below.

Step 5 – Post to your website

For the best SEO benefits, create a new page on your website for every video you post on YouTube. The steps you should now follow are:

• create a new page with the same Title that you used for the exported video

• add a brief introduction on the page

• paste the YouTube link on your page, using any technique that should be used by your website software (there are many ways to do this; check with your website company if you are not sure)

• if you can, write a few sentences about the content of your new video, or even better write a transcript (you can also extract the text of your presentation, which is very easy to do)

• When your page is ready, publish it.

Congratulations, you have just released your first short video for your business!

If you make a list of 7-10 questions that you generally receive, each can be turned into a Q&A video posted on YouTube and on its website.

Bonus step

Upload your new video to other online video distribution portals, do a search to find them. Now slap yourself on the back for a job well done! Don’t forget to rinse and repeat, do the same thing again using a different question, upload and post. Then rinse and repeat. Keep doing this and you will have a lot of great information on the internet pointing to your website and showing your knowledge and experience in your field.
