I want to say what I thought as a Colombian from the movie Encanto. Here I go.
…It’s not like coconut. Comparing them just because they both have family themes and take place in places that people commonly associate is about the same as comparing matilda and lucy just because both movies focus on a woman with mental powers. They are inherently different films in both their approach to the subject matter and the journey the characters go through. People deserve to know this side of my country… this magical… miraculous side of my country that… in recent years has only produced movies and media focused on… well… you know what, the first thing with which you associate Colombia. It’s… the first time in… forever… I feel like a movie really captured my culture in its purest form, in the family themes, the breaking up, the magic that comes with bonding, all the themes that they are exclusive to Colombian literature in particular. I was crying… for the first time with a movie that happened in my country… I want to see more things like that… there is much more to Colombia than… violence… I want to experience that. https://preview.redd.it/m5xzb3h3ik681.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=b0e7971a779dd8234e39fe95ceda3c5675261ae1 Please…do yourself a favor…look at Charm…no vias, no comparison…appreciate it for what it is… a window into a culture… forgotten by the rest of the world. <3
